Description

The American Alpine Journal is the premier annual record of significant mountaineering and long rock-climbing ascents worldwide.

The 2012 AAJ has a brand-new feature called Recon that details the little-visited Titcomb Basin of Wyoming's Wind River Range, as well as detailed features on the first ascent of the Shark's Fin, exploration in Alaska's Revelation Range, the first ascent—alpine style—of the world's second- highest unclimbed peak, as well as detailed features on notable climbs in Patagonia, Alaska, and Afghanistan.

The 2012 AAJ also offers us three important perspectives on Cerro Torre: Kelly Cordes' excellent piece lending historical context to the peak, Hayden Kennedy's description of the first "Fair-Means" ascent of the Compressor Route, and David Lama's account of the first free ascent of that iconic route.

Limited Edition Hardcover: The limited-edition, hardbound, 400-page 2012 AAJ features a special print of the Garhwal Himalaya by artist Renan Ozturk. Only 150 copies have been produced, each signed by Renan and hand-numbered.
